Some More Blogs from Jean-Paul

My Music Diary has been very successful and the page-views astounds me.

I like to introduce to my readers my venture into a different aspect of posts but with a unique twist.

In one new blog I've successfully wrote a html code to embed a flash-file unto the blog as you can't import them as easily as websites. You can now play my virtual jigsaw puzzles on a blog. Furthermore, it can be played on Apple Mac products which is a plus factor.

Please be my guest and do leave some comments. Tell me what you think about the concept. This has not been done before and it's my debut of introducing Virtual Jigsaw Puzzles with a slight twist to keep you focussed.

Read the first one in the series:

The second one the series (in my opinion the best):

The idea of the concept is revolutionary in it's approach

Apples, Apples and it's all about Apples

 APPLES APPLES & APPLES

Why this unusual heading you would say?
Well, I'm using the concept in piano lessons I've designed for children with autism, which is also suitable for pre-primary up to grade 3.

The Apple is the first element of seven in the teaching aid.

They look absolutely delicious to eat. Just imagine having a bite on that smooth mouth watering apple right now! You could indulge yourself in this necessity of subtenancy and possibly devour another apple as your body is graving for it. But this Apple have so many beneficial properties that you can't imagine that it also has technological connotations as in computers.

The creation of everything on this planet is mind-boggling; From Nature to Technology.
Imagine unlocking the secrets in the creation of the scrumptious Apple. How it first started?
It's difficult to comprehend but not that difficult when it is designed by engineers and programmers to become a communication device for all mankind.

Communication devices differ tremendously; each with its own unique features. Wouldn't be convenient to share all of those amongst each other like we share this planet. It would make a better place instead of bickering who has the best up-to-date and more advanced micro-chips oozing with very fast processors that can do things for you in a nano of a second.

An application software can make it possible to share all the unique features, especially if you possess a device that is associated with the picture of the fruit at the beginning of this post.

Unlocking the potentiality of amazing apps & features available to all, regardless of which platform you are on, must be 'manna' from a remote place in the sky.

The most amazing application out there is none other than the Apple Unlocker, that will make everything possible for those who owns an

                                                                            product.

The new blog post called " www.appleunlockerguaranteed.blogspot.com "  is up and running like a swarm of bees to get to that attractive scent of a flower (:>
(you actually don't have to remember this post ~ the mouse will take care of it) (:>

It is just a blog on the actual product; a place where people can go to, to read more about it and to see what the merchant has to offer regarding the software.
This blog explains to you how to utilize the software; how to make everything possible when it comes to restrictions. This enables you to download apps of your choice which android and windows based devices have been using for some time now.

There are many people out there that are oblivious what's on the marketplace and also challenged by the technology out there. This post had them in mind as well.

Another example: you like to see my own personal website or blog and you darn don't remember what it's called, you just type my name on the internet and voila you'll be led into the right directions plus other choices.

It is as easy as that! No sweat

Four and Twenty Café

This is the first of a series of Virtual Jigsaw Puzzles
I'm creating for business and corporate companies.

The first in the series is none other than the delightful
23 Wolfe street, Chelsea Village, Wynberg:

As an introduction I like to mention the many benefits of actually putting the pieces together.

Jigsaws Can Educate, Stretch the Mind & Make a Great Gift

It's Jigsaw puzzles with a difference; it's virtual on your monitor or touch screen mobile device; no more loosing pieces, It's interactive. Many people find one of the bonuses of puzzling is that it helps keep their minds active and alert. Therapeutically stimulating

People of all ages enjoy doing jigsaw puzzles. Babies will often be given a basic wooden jigsaw as an early toy and many people come back to puzzling in later life as a hobby. This isn't just about having fun. Doing a jigsaw comes with a range of mental and physical benefits.

It's not a coincidence that the shelves in toy stores always seem to contain a lot of jigsaws for all ages of children. Most kids will enjoy doing puzzles during their childhood. They are simply fun. But, there are also a range of benefits that come with this kind of toy. They can help children develop and boost certain key skills that will be useful to them as they proceed through school and on into later life.

The Educational Benefits of Jigsaw Puzzles for Children

  • Puzzles can help develop a child's reasoning and problem solving skills. Even the simplest jigsaw will require them to think about what they do as they try to put the puzzle together.
  • Puzzles can also help a child to develop their fine motor skills when they are young. Having to pick up individual pieces and slot them into place without breaking up the bits they have already completed can be a complex task to learn. But, it can reinforce some skills that are essential to their development.
  • Putting a puzzle together will also work on the child's hand-eye co-ordination and their understanding of shapes and colours.
  • The subjects on puzzles can also be used as educational aids. An alphabet or number puzzle, for example, will be fun for the child to complete but is also a good opportunity for a parent to chat to them about letters and numbers and to reinforce learning.
  • Solving a puzzle can do wonders for a child's self-esteem. As puzzles get more challenging for them they also learn useful life skills such as seeing things through to completion and trying different approaches to problem solving.
One of the biggest benefits for children here is the fact that puzzles are fun. Many children will resist learning at home if they know it is happening. Enjoying making up a puzzle, however, could mask the fact that they are also having an educational experience.

The Benefits of Jigsaws for Adults

Although many adults get out of the habit of doing jigsaws as they grow older this remains a popular hobby for a lot of people. It is also a common pastime for people who have recently retired and who are looking for something fun to do now that they have more time on their hands. Many also believe that there are some real benefits to doing jigsaws, especially as people get older. These include:

  • Doing jigsaw puzzles can keep the mind active. Relaxing and fun as puzzles may be they will also involve the use of specific areas of the brain and a variety of mental skills. Many people find that one of the bonuses of puzzling is that it helps keep their minds active and alert.
  • Jigsaws can also be used positively from a physical perspective as people get older. Many find, for example, that doing a jigsaw regularly, even for just a few minutes a day, can be a useful way of promoting manual dexterity.
Both adults and children can enjoy doing puzzles on their own but this can be a fun social activity as well. A group of adults tackling a large and complex jigsaw can have a lot of fun!

At this moment in time we are experiencing the most incredible advancement in computer virtual interactive technology and I therefore created a virtual reality you would enjoy. The virtual jigsaw puzzles in my Projects folder of my website are only a few of my creations for both desktop and mobile devices. The puzzles can in actual fact be downloaded onto your Android, Windows or Iphone devices for an extraordinary interactive game with a difference.

No, I haven't digressed, but the subject matter of virtual jigsaw puzzles needed some airing as many people are oblivious of their existence.

Now let's get back to Four and Twenty.

Four and Twenty Café is the manifestation of a dream born at the foot of the Eiffel Tower over a box of Parisian macaroons. In the middle of a whirlwind gastronomic journey through France that cemented a timeless friendship between two soul-mates, their unwavering common purpose was crystallized to turn their Bordeaux-midnight wishes and Lyon-sidewalk hopes, into a reality.

Tracy-Leigh Genricks and Marijke Duminy:

As two classically trained Grande Diploma Cordon Bleus chefs, they are committed and passionate about producing a product that is traditional but unconventional and creating an environment that fosters the adoration of good food and the people who appreciate it.

One of their scrumptious gastronomic creations I've used to make a puzzle "virtually" for you to play on my website. Just click on the screenshot of the the following puzzle and that will link you directly to the website. Please take note that to be able to interact "virtually" you need to activate or download Adobe Flash Player for both desktop and mobile devices. For AppleMac  you need to download: AdobeFlashPlayerInstaller_11_ltrosxd_aaa_aih.dmg

Robben Island

Robben Island is an island in Table Bay, 6.9 km west of the coast of Bloubergstrand, Cape Town, South Africa. The name is Dutch for "seal island". Robben Island is roughly oval in shape, 3.3 km long north-south, and 1.9 km wide, with an area of 5.07 km².  It is flat and only a few metres above sea level, as a result of an ancient erosion event.

Nobel Laureate and former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela was imprisoned on Robben Island for 18 of the 27 years he served behind bars before the fall of apartheid.

As a memento to Nelson Mandela I've created a virtual puzzle for you to play in the folder "Projects":

Here is another example of a virtual jigsaw puzzle depicting Robben Island. The format is different from the one on my website. If you are interested in this version please contact me:

Business Card for Jean-Paul

My new updated business card:

Now, you wonder why I have decided on this unusual post of presenting my business card?

The reason concerns everyone who like to represent themselves from a business or professional point of view.
This post would  mainly focus on the importance of business cards.

Being a graphic designer myself, apart from being a 'muso', I find that it stimulates me mentally to tread into a realm that is suppose to be just for the schooled qualified selected. Instead of vegetating and becoming a couch-potato or too complacent in your present situation, you can also explore different challenging opportunities out there. You as an individual have the most amazing skills (everyone has it no matter your circumstances or cultural backgrounds) which you can tap on with the most profound intuition.
You just need a bit of  "a kick in the butt"  so to speak.

I'm digressing but it was important to mention the contents of the paragraph above.

Back to what this blog is all about:

One of the most powerful, yet ignored weapons in your marketing weapon store is your business card.  There are many ways that a person can attract customers to one's business. Some do this by launching a marketing campaign in the form of an ad in the paper or on a billboard. Some don't use marketing at all and just flourish through word of mouth.
On a more personal level if that person travels around, the best thing to carry and give out is a business card. Business cards are used by people in big and small time business. It reflects who the person is. It gives people an idea of what the person is capable of doing in the event that the service one offers is needed in the future.
Business cards help business people present a good company image by highlighting the services provided by a particular company. They can also help to enhance the personal image of a businessperson. Production and printing costs of business cards are low, but benefits are high, as they make a statement in the business world. As a result, the market value of business cards is high.
Businesses survive due to a regular customers and having new clients. This will bring additional revenue for the company and allows the company to grow. By using the resources one has such as the use of business cards, this will happen.
What information should I put on my business card? It will all depend on you. The common information that can be found on a business card includes your name, position or occupation, company or business, address of the company or where you do business from, your work phone number, home phone number, mobile phone number, and email address. However, you need not put each of these items of information on your card.
It is highly recommended that you put a picture on your business card. Studies have shown that people are more likely to hold on to a Business card with a photo on it. It could be your picture, a picture of your product, or a combination of both. Picture cards get attention! A tagline is a one sentence benefit statement. So using this is also valuable for your business.
Your business card should represent the perfect image of your company; in fact, it is the one item that will be remembered on that first encounter! Having a design that does not reflect what you do, could have a negative impact on your business sales.

With that in mind, I strongly believe that doing your own business card design could be challenging and daunting which many designers would say, is not the right way to go.
"Leave the designing to the professionals and use you time doing what you do best … selling your product or service!" is what most people advocate, but you can also sit down and design something that you would like to see which would be visually appealing.
You present your chalkboard requirements to the local printer which could also advise you if need be, on layout protocol, a change here & there. That is the whole idea about getting up and be active.
There are many books and articles on the internet about business cards. You can even download free templates for different programs.
Also, here I go again, become computer literate. That is a challenge in itself. You can actually shock your left and right brain-lobe from stagnate oblivion.

In a world where meetings happen in cyberspace and a small business’s new marketing campaign is more likely to involve tweets than billboards, few ‘old school’ ways of conducting business have survived unscathed.
The business card is a humble exception. Although plenty of digital methods of storing and transferring contacts exist, there is still no substitute for the inherent value in handing someone your card. From making a strong first impression to solidifying a lasting business relationship, the paper trail that a card provides remains an invaluable tool.
Think twice before scrapping that hearty card stock in your wallet, and consider these reasons that carrying a card still matters to the health of your small business:

1.  Cards are Timeless.  Just like newspapers and books, digital alternatives to business cards now exist. It’s possible to send a virtual card with all of your contact media and social media links via email, or simply bump phones with another person to transfer data back-and-forth.
Don’t count on these methods working for everyone, however. There are always a few veteran business owners out there who wear their disdain for computers like a badge of pride, preferring the old way of doing things. It’s okay to ‘bump’ with like-minded acquaintances, but keep a card on hand as your default method of exchanging contacts

2. Direct Marketing is Effective.  Exchanging cards is typically accompanied by a face-to-face conversation and a handshake. Whether you’re sealing a deal, making a hire, or establishing a partnership, there’s nothing more valuable than an actual in-person meeting. You never know when you’ll run into a potentially valuable contact, so it’s important to be prepared — at lunch, at the store, and especially at social gatherings.
Leaving a new contact with your card provides a reminder of your encounter. When they pull your card from their pocket, they’ll recall your conversation and be more likely to follow up with you. Although the ability to instantly be added to an online address book has its place, it can mean sacrificing the value that a paper reminder provides.

3.  A Card Makes An Impression.  Handing someone your business card is your first opportunity to back up your words with a tangible example of your style and professionalism. If you work in a creative field, your card should show off your ideas and bright mind. Likewise, a lawyer or businessperson may want to convey strength or elegance.
When designing your card, don’t feel like you have to go overboard. Blank space is okay and can be preferable to cluttering your card with unnecessary pictures or text. Include a phone number, an email, your job title, and perhaps a line with your specialties or areas of expertise.

4.  The Price is Right.  The most infallible reason for carrying a card may simply be, ‘Why not?’ With all of the benefits an intelligent, effective card can have, it’s foolish not to keep them on hand, especially when the cost is so low, in comparison to most other types of marketing materials. Priced against commercials, product samples, and press kits, business cards are a deal that fits any small business’s budget.

5.  Cards Can Be Tech Savvy.  Just because you’re sticking with paper, you can still have the best of both worlds. Many people now utilize QR codes — the square barcodes that can be scanned with a smartphone — to direct people to their small business’s website or their social media pages. Code generators are easy to use online. Consider using the space on the back of your card for the code. In one piece of cardstock that comfortably fits in your palm, you now have the benefits of both a traditional card, as discussed in this post, and the ability to instantly link people to your online presence.

Think of your business card as an extension of yourself. The information it includes, and the style you convey it in, reinforces the impression you make in person and helps to spread your brand out into the world.

Amélie Ida Grace Hardres-Williams

Amélie celebrated her 2nd birthday on Sunday, 7th July 2013.

Antonia and Amélie
(See below for an example of a Virtual Jigsaw Puzzle which can be played on my Website)

What a splendid and grand occasion and this took place in the
 Ballroom of Casa Labia.

Pink & white helium balloons on the ceiling greeted the
 invited guests to the celebration.

Gillian Durrant, Amélie, Antonia and Balloons

The splendour and ambience of the venue lends itself to all kinds of events; from birthdays, weddings, breakfast, lunch, high teas, concerts, film shoots and corporate functions. For further information please don't hesitate to contact the Events & Café Manager, Tania Mill.

Special children’s tables and chairs were setup to accommodate Amélie’s age-group invited guests. Any child would be delighted to experience this well planned birthday event.

The setup included paper & crayons for them to induce stimulation for their creative imaginary instincts before they commenced with the culinary delights of the day. These were as usual, made by the kitchen staff and Chefs (Alex baked and decorated the heart-shaped birthday cake & cupcakes. Innocent baked the quiches; Franco & Pesch did the rest). They have with ‘gusto’ presented a memorable spread which an assortment of cakes, sandwiches, quiches, sausage rolls and sweets.

With all the choices in activities, themes and party favours, you can throw a perfect party for a two year old, designed for her or his interest and attention span. There are many magazines suggesting that the party should not be more than an hour in length, and keeping the guest list small, but that it still allows a party that will be entertaining and enjoyable for all concerned. The criteria in Amélie’s birthday celebration were met with astounding success.

Amélie was mesmerised by all the varied gifts presented to her; a little confused by all the attention but worth all the pampering.

The party started at 10am with parents and other invited guests and at 11am the birthday cake with two burning candles was brought to the little table by Amélie’s mother, Antonia Labia. At the same time, I played the famous Happy Birthday Song on the Kawai Grand Piano and everyone present, sang it beautifully like an operatic chorus with interesting harmonies from some of the guests. The birthday girl and her entourage of little guests clapped their hands afterwards; enjoying the attention given by the adults for this special memorable moment in time which would be remembered for years to come.

The Birthday table with Amélie & Antonia

PS The child in me then at the end of the party decided to reach out to the balloons and chose one pink & one white; went out to the lawn and launched them into space with a wish that everyone present would have a happy and fulfilled life ahead.

This is the lawn from which the balloons were launched into space

Workbooks for early learning:

5 Educational Jumbo Workbooks for early learning
5 Fun Coloring Activity Books

Modern early education theories stress the importance of providing children with activities they can enjoy and accomplish at their own pace.
The 5 jumboworkbooks have been developed with this in mind. Each book provides an enriching and highly creative learning environment which lays the foundation for formal schooling without the pressure of a formal learning program.
The result is children who learn independently in a fun and self paced fashion, becoming more productive and individually creative.

New performance schedule at Casa Labia

My Saturday and Sunday performances at Casa Labia have been changed to 1 pm until 4 pm. The decision to change the time is to accommodate patrons who normally are still there until closing time, and to prevent a gap of no entertainment between 3 pm and 4 pm.

I have the pleasure to announce my website:

http://jpgl790.wix.com/jp-grimaldi-projects

I started the design yesterday afternoon and of course, the html drove me mad at times.
It worked out quite well with some last minute editing this morning.

Both Casa Labia and Ian Burgess-Simpson Pianos are linked on the website.
Just click on the highlighted text and that will connect you with them.

In addition, after I've pulled out a few hairs out of frustration, I included an app SoundCloud for your listening pleasure, to listen to the soundtracks on my CD.

I hope listening to my performance will induce you to purchase my CD from Casa Labia or myself at Cavendish Square. All proceeds will go towards the costing of the next recording.

Yet another fantastic function at Casa Labia, Saturday 11th May 2013

My performance starts at 12 noon. I normally arrive a hour before lunch to get my fix for the day; my first coffee of the day; and that really spikes me to a waking state of no return; even my fingers glides over the keys like Speedy Gonzalez – go go amigo = jp (:>

Walking into the Ballroom to open the Kawai Grand Piano stopped me in my tracks by the stunning layout of the tables set by none other than the staff of the Café: Tania, Lwazi, Edith, Kevin, Chantelle and Lydia.

The exquisite detail was commendable. They used serviettes to match the corporate colours of the company Beier Safety Footwear www.beiersafety.co.za who on this day launched a marketing campaign  of their new catalogue. The campaign was appropriately  titled “The World is a Dangerous Place – We’re Making It Safe”

30 members of their company – comprising of owners, managers and their sales team attended the launch. There was a motivational talk upstairs in one of the function rooms where the Gallery and Casbah Design Boutique is. They enjoyed the motivational talk, followed by the campaign launch and then the stunning lunch.

Nick Bryant, Key Account Manager for Beier Safety Footwear, who was introduced to me by his sister, Sally, administrative assistant at Casa Labia Cultural Centre,  told me that it was a highly successful day and enjoyed by all whom attended.

Most of them have never been at Casa Labia and were totally in awe with the opulence and ambience, which I noticed on their facial expressions when they entered the Ballroom.

Here are some of the photos taken during their lunch:

Nick, kindly sent me some of the photographs that was taken during the day of the launch which some of them are included here.

An email from Nick Bryant:
“Hi JP,
Thank you so much for completing the ‘perfect day’ for my customer function. You added a wonderful element to lunch today. Many of my clients came up to me and said they had wanted to “clap” between each of your pieces of music but didn’t know if this was the “done” thing.
Nevertheless, it was brilliant. Thanks again.”

Mother's day at Casa Labia

As usual, Casa Labia, has been so busy with birthday celebrations, anniversaries, functions, conferences, photo shoots that there is no time for a breather really. It's a dedicated job to set up tables and the staff is well trained in their tasks and it pleases the patrons how elegant and classy it looks. The ambience of the venue with all the rooms takes a new visitor by surprise.

Mother's day was particularly busy with the most stunning climatic conditions in Muizenberg; hardly a whiff of a nippy Atlantic sea breeze that we are so accustomed to here on the peninsula.

Some patrons had reserved certain rooms for double celebrations; both mothers’ day and birthday.
In the background you could hear me tinkling away on the piano as usual. A mixture of different styles of music repertoire to cater for both young and the more mature, from classical to popular modern songs.

Tania Mill,  the Events & Café Manager , earlier during the morning, were putting some of the finishing touches in place at the tables on the veranda. The serviettes were as colourful as some of the variety of birds on the plants and flowers around the fish-pond of the Italian garden outside the Casa Labia Cultural Centre.

Here is Tania, her elegant self, completing her task at one of the tables on the veranda:

A thanks to patron for their support and the subject of gratuities

As a trained concert pianist and qualified music teacher I have been performing at Casa Labia, Muizenberg, South Africa for some time now.

I perform on a Kawai Grand Piano model RX-7 in the splendid and wonderfully ornate ballroom, home to many concerts and soirees. For more information on these events, please visit the Casa Labia website www.casalabia.co.za

The piano is a delight to play on. The action is responsive and the tone really superb for this venue.

I perform from 12 noon until 3pm every Saturday and Sunday. My repertoire includes classical and a diverse style of popular, standard jazz as well as some original material.

The venue hosts weddings, high teas, corporate functions, anniversaries and birthdays and I am available to play for all these events. Other than my extensive repertoire, I am only too happy to play guests favourites provided I am given advance warning.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank those patrons who kindly supported me with generous gratuities. It’s really not expected and it gives me a tremendous feeling of satisfaction to know that my art is appreciated.

I chose this career from very early in life.  I began playing at the age of 5, continued at school and then studied music at university. Being a performer takes years of dedication and hard work - hours of technical exercises, preparing for exams, practicing “note perfect” performing.  Another skill which takes some mastering is the ability to read music for both right and left hands simultaneously.

Many passers-by at Cavendish Square where I promote the Kawai Grand Piano for Ian Burgess-Simpson Pianos, twice a week on Thursday and Fridays are flabbergasted by this ability. It’s really not that astounding thinking about it. It’s like any form of vocation where you become skilled in your particular workplace; the typist can rapidly type a letter within a few minutes without looking at the QWERTY keyboard. They know through practise which finger to use for each letter of the alphabet; the same applies to being a musician (you know which key to play without glancing down from the sheet music you have in front of you).

Being a musician is sometimes difficult in our present economic climate. Musicians are everywhere: subways, street corners, inside restaurants, outside restaurants, and of course in front of sidewalk cafés (even now in trains, especially here in the Western Cape). I've learned to ignore the bad ones and reward, whatever I can afford, the good ones.

I know how is it to struggle to make ends meet and when a gratuity is presented (for waitrons or musicians) it really is very much appreciated.

Many people do not know what the protocol is for is for entertainers. They know they should tip their waitresses and waiters but not everyone knows if it’s ok to tip the entertainment. Of course a gratuity is always welcome for the musician, depending on the patron’s appreciation of the music and the overall contribution it makes to the ambience, relaxation and the opulence of the venue.

The money I receive in the form of gratuities is primarily used to purchase new repertoire material.

In my opinion, requests from the public must be honoured and I normally make it my business to obtain and practise a requested song on their next visit to the venue. Thus, makes the patron happy and they would in turn frequent the place more often.
